Southeast Volusia Historical Society January 2014 Meeting
The January meeting of the Southeast Volusia Historical Society will hold it’s annual dinner to honor volunteers on January 16, 2014 at 6:30pm. The dinner will be held at the Sugar Mill Country Club. Tickets are available at the New Smyrna Museum of History and cost $25. The cash bar will open at 6pm.
The featured speaker will be Nick Thomas who has worked at NASA for many years as a Communicator at the Kennedy Space Center. Nick is currently assigned to the Astronaut Encounter office where he assists veteran astronauts with special assignments, scheduling and presentations. He is a recipient of the Silver Snoopy Award by NASA.
Space Shuttle Atlantis Takes Maiden Flight–1985
Maiden Flight
America’s newest space shuttle, Atlantis, blasted off at 11:15 a.m. Thursday to begin a secret five-day mission for the Department of Defense. The craft is the last of its type which will be built for the shuttle program.
